Dehradun, 5 Apr: Governor Baby Rani Maurya met women participants of the “Shakti” programme organised by University of Petroleum and Energy Studies on Friday at the Raj Bhawan, here. The programme is being conducted to develop leadership skills of women teachers and personnel of the university. Interacting with the women participants, Governor Maurya said that women should never compromise on their strength and capabilities. “If you take the right decision, adhere to it. Believe in your Karma and conduct. This is the basic Mantra of life,” she emphasised. The Governor added that women should get equal rights in the decision making process. Women have natural leadership qualities. Every institute should encourage them. Stressing on the eradication of gender discrimination, Governor Maurya said that girls should given opportunities in education, sports and the freedom to take decisions. Answering a question, Governor Maurya said that women should try to make a balance with family and children, even while having successful careers. “Arrogance should never take over, and we should give importance to cooperation and the suggestions of family.” Answering a participant, the Governor said that they should not consider any work small. Service should be the real motive. The Governor also expressed her views on joint families. She suggested the women decide their targets and try to achieve them with full strength. “Never leave values in life,” she advised. Many women participants asked the Governor about her life experiences and the journey of becoming Governor and presented their views also. Secretary Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu and UPES Chairman Sharad Mehra were present on the occasion.
