Nainital, 9 Jun: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), in his capacity as Chancellor, Kumaon University, held a meeting, today, of Deans and Directors of the University at the DSB campus, here.
Such a meeting was held for the first time. The Governor interacted with each of the Deans and Directors, separately, and obtained information about their department’s achievements, contribution to society, their mission and vision as well as the challenges. The Chancellor inquired about the achievements of each related department, the published research papers, awards, MOs and future plans, including publications.
Lt-General Singh said that Kumaon University has been famous in the field of research and education. Students studying here have brought laurels to Uttarakhand in the country and abroad. He said that maintaining the quality of education and research should be the basic objective of universities. He directed that the faculties excellent research papers of national and international levels, as research and technology are useful in the true sense only when people are benefited. He urged the deans to find their own sources of financial resources and should not entirely depend on the university. Efforts should also be made to supplement financial resources with the help of central institutions and CSR.
The Governor added that many students from the University have achieved a lot and are holding high positions. Alumni meets should be organised for the former students and they should be motivated to boost financial resources for the university. He asserted that every effort would be made to solve the problems and challenges faced by the university. He also asked each of the Deans and Directors to send their suggestions regarding the betterment of the university to him.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Manmohan Chauhan was also present.
