Rudraprayag, 9 Jun: District Magistrate Mayur Dixit instructed the District Panchayat, Municipality, Nagar Panchayats and Sulabh International to make ensure better cleanliness in their respective areas of responsibility so that a better environment is available to the pilgrims visiting Kedarnath Dham. Pilgrims coming to Kedarnath should not face any problems and inconvenience regarding cleanliness in public facilities.
The Executive Officer, Nagar Panchayat, Kedarnath, Chandrashekhar Chowdhary stated that, under the instructions of the DM, a special cleanliness drive was carried out jointly by Paryavaran Mitras of Nagar Panchayat, Kedarnath, and Sulabh International, along the road from Gol Chauraha to the gate of Himlok Tent Colony (GMVN) and on the banks of Mandakini River. About two and a half quintals of plastic waste were collected in 30 bags during the cleanliness drive.
Chowdhary added that 64 persons were fined and an amount of Rs 36,700 was recovered while taking action as per the rules against littering.
The campaign was led by the sector in-charge, Chandrakant Bhatt, and environment supervisor, Nagar Panchayat. Mukesh, Shravan Kumar, etc., were present at the cleaning campaign.
