Gov participates in ESM Rally in Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh, 27 Mar: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated in an ex-servicemen’s rally and a programme held for soldiers’ families at the 12 Kumaon base under the Panchshul Brigade of the Indian Army in Pithoragarh.

During the event, the Governor flagged off the concluding leg of the Zorawar Cycle Rally and interacted with the participants, boosting their morale. He also honoured veterans and Veer Naris for their outstanding contributions.

Addressing ex-servicemen and their families, the Governor said that every soldier of the Indian Army is a leader, possessing inherent leadership qualities. He called upon them to utilise this leadership for the betterment of society and to bring about positive change. He also described the Pithoragarh Military Station as one of the finest among military stations in Uttarakhand.

In his address, the Governor highlighted the immense tourism potential of Pithoragarh. He noted that the number of tourists visiting the district has been steadily increasing, with around 40,000 tourists visiting this year, and expressed confidence that the figure could reach lakhs in the coming years. He emphasised that Pithoragarh’s natural beauty would gain global recognition. Referring to the region as the “sacred land of Mahadev,” he mentioned prominent religious sites such as Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, which are boosting tourism.

The Governor appreciated the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages Programme, stating that it is proving to be a milestone in the development of border areas. He described the progress in honey, aroma, and millets sectors as a “revolution”, highlighting their importance for local livelihoods.

He encouraged retired soldiers to take up homestay ventures and urged women from soldiers’ families to join self-help groups and adopt self-employment. He also called upon the public to actively participate in the progress and holistic development of Pithoragarh.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the Government of India for the benefits being provided to ex-servicemen under the One Rank One Pension scheme. He also remembered General Bipin Chandra Joshi and acknowledged his contribution to the establishment of Army Public Schools (APS).

On his arrival, the Governor was welcomed by GOC-in-C Central Command, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, GOC, Uttar Bharat Area, Lieutenant General DG Mishra, GOC, Uttarakhand Sub Area, Major General MPS Gill, along with Brigadiers and other military officials.
