Dehradun, 4 September: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) congratulated the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia for technical cooperation in beekeeping and honey production. The Governor stated that beekeeping and honey production could become a significant source of income for farmers in Uttarakhand, and such international collaborations will provide new directions for the state’s agricultural sector.
He noted that this agreement is a crucial step towards establishing the university as a global leader in the field of beekeeping.
The MoU outlines the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at Pantnagar University, joint research on beekeeping, and mutual exchange of training and research activities, including seminars and workshops for scientists, students, and other personnel. These initiatives are expected to benefit agriculture-based industries and provide modern technical knowledge and facilities to farmers and entrepreneurs in the state. The agreement will strengthen research and technical exchange between the two institutions, enhancing the beekeeping industry in Uttarakhand.
It is worth noting that the Governor had previously directed Pantnagar University to enhance international technical cooperation in beekeeping. Acting swiftly, the university facilitated this agreement through a two-member team led by Dr Ajit Singh Nain, Director of Research, and Dr Pramod Mal, Head of the Department of Entomology, who visited Slovenia from 26 to 29 August to discuss various possibilities in beekeeping with Slovenian scientists and finalise the MoU with the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia.
