Teachers who improve quality of school education truly deserve recognition: Gov

Gov, CM & Education Minister honour Teachers with Shailesh Matiyani State Education Award

Dehradun, 5 Sep: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat honoured teachers selected for the ‘Shailesh Matiyani State Education Awards’ for the year 2023 at a ceremony held on Teachers’ Day, here, today. Nineteen teachers selected for the year 2023 were awarded at the Raj Bhawan.

The Chief Guest, Governor Singh extended his congratulations and best wishes to the award-winning teachers. He stated, “Teachers who have made significant contributions to improving the quality of school education in challenging conditions and remote areas truly deserve recognition. I express my gratitude to you on behalf of the people of the state for your services and commitment.”

The Governor emphasised that the position of a teacher is paramount. He noted that teachers selected for the State Education Awards serve as an inspiration for other educators. Reflecting on Teachers’ Day, he recalled his own student life and teachers, stating that the knowledge imparted by teachers continues to provide guidance and inspiration.

Gen Singh highlighted the crucial role of teachers in societal and national development, noting that their role will be pivotal in making India a world leader and a developed nation by 2047. He urged teachers to focus on the holistic development of children and adopt new technologies for quality education.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended Teachers’ Day greetings to all teachers, emphasising that the day is dedicated to showing respect and honour to educators. He praised the teachers for spreading knowledge and shaping students’ lives with their guidance and experience. In Indian culture, the teacher holds the highest position, guiding students and dispelling ignorance, he emphasised.

The Chief Minister discussed the historical tradition of the guru-shishya relationship and stated that award-winning teachers would inspire others and serve as role models for society. He stressed the need for ethical education and the revival of values.

Dhami also highlighted the expanded role of teachers in the digital age, connecting students to culture amidst technological advancements and globalisation. He assured that the state government would support teachers in every possible way to contribute to the state’s development and the future of children. The government has taken historic decisions in education and is creating a favourable environment for teachers, he claimed.

Additionally, the Chief Minister announced an increase in the Shailesh Matiyani Award amount from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.

Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat wished all teachers a happy Teachers’ Day and acknowledged their tireless efforts in improving the education level in the state. He provided information about the ongoing initiatives and innovations of the education department.

Secretary, School Education, Ravinath Raman welcomed the attendees and provided detailed information about the ceremony. Director General of School Education, Banshidhar Tiwari, expressed gratitude to those present.

Other attendees included Secretary, Sanskrit Education, Deepak Kumar, Additional Secretary, Education, Ranjana Rajguru, senior education department officials, award-winning teachers, and their families.
