Dehradun, 19 Dec: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) released the “Doon Sanitation Seminar Report-2023” of Cantonment Board, Dehradun, at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Tuesday.

This report is based on the first ‘Swachhta Chaupal’ organised by the Dehradun Cantonment Board. In this seminar organized in the month of February, 51 companies, startups and self-help groups from across the country working in the field of solid waste management participated and demonstrated their products and technology in waste management. The report highlights topics like solid waste management in Uttarakhand, sanitation technologies and options: opportunities and challenges, and the emerging landscape of sanitation startups and innovations. Besides, the discussions held in the seminar have also been included.

The Governor said that this is a commendable initiative and the document should be sent to all the municipal bodies and public representatives. He said that such programmes should be regularly organised, particularly Haridwar, so that people there can become more aware of cleanliness. Crores of devotees come to Haridwar throughout the year. If Haridwar is kept clean and neat, then every pilgrim and tourist will take back a positive image. He expressed the need for special efforts in this direction. For this, cooperation of corporates along with local public representatives should be taken.

The Governor added that there is immense potential for tourism in Uttarakhand, but to promote it, it is very important to maintain cleanliness at tourism destinations.

On this occasion, Cantt Board Chairman Brigadier Sanjog Negi, CEO Abhinav Singh and social worker Anoop Nautiyal were also present.
