Governor awards winners of various competitions; IIT Roorkee wins “Running Trophy”

3-day Vasantotsav concludes at Raj Bhavan

Dehradun, 9 Mar: The three-day Vasantotsav 2025 at Raj Bhavan, here, concluded today. Thousands of visitors enjoyed the beauty of the flowers and other festivities. This year, the Running Trophy was awarded to IIT Roorkee, whereas last year, ONGC had won the honour.

IIT Roorkee secured awards in 10 categories, while Uttarakhand Sainik Rehabilitation Institute and Patharchatta won in three categories. A total of 165 prizes were distributed across 15 categories and 55 subcategories.

Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) awarded the winners of the flower exhibition competitions, rangoli contest, children’s painting competition, and photography competition.

During the closing ceremony, the Governor expressed his joy at the overwhelming public participation, stating that around 2.7 lakh visitors attended the event, making it a truly people’s festival. He emphasised that technology and innovation played a key role in enhancing the festival’s appeal and effectiveness.

The Governor highlighted the potential of flowers, honey, and aromatic plants in boosting Uttarakhand’s economy and bringing prosperity to the state. He acknowledged the contributions of farmers, women, and youth, who made Vasantotsav a special occasion. He also congratulated the Horticulture Department, Culture Department, and other supporting organisations for successfully organising the festival.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi praised the remarkable participation in Vasantotsav 2025 and credited the Governor’s inspiration for making the festival better every year. He also shared insights into various government schemes related to agriculture.

The ceremony featured mesmerising performances by pipe bands from the IMA, ITBP, and Home Guards, which added to the charm of the event. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the musical performances and appreciated the efforts of the participants.

Among the dignitaries present were First Lady Gurmeet Kaur, CM’s wife Geeta Dhami, Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, SN Pandey, Additional Secretary to the Governor Swati S Bhadauria, Director, Horticulture, Deepti Singh, Additional Director Dr Ratan Kumar, and many other prominent personalities, public representatives, and enthusiastic visitors.
