DEHRADUN, 18 Jul: The Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), participated as the Chief Guest at a seminar on ‘Moral Education in the New Education Policy’, organized by the National Soldiers’ Organisation at Lok Bhavan on Saturday.He also felicitated members of the organisation for their outstanding contributions in various fields.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that under the National Education Policy, it is essential to equip young people not only with modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) but also with moral education and character development. He stated that value-oriented youth will play a crucial role in achieving the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and realizing India’s aspiration to become a global leader in knowledge.
He further said that India’s rich knowledge tradition—including the Veda, Upanishad, and the teachings of sages—provides a powerful means of connecting the younger generation with enduring life values. He emphasized that values such as truth, honesty, integrity, and self-discipline are the foundation of a strong nation.
Lt Gen Singh noted that moral education should not remain confined to textbooks but must be reflected in everyday conduct. He remarked that such values are learned not through instruction alone but by setting an example. He called upon members of the National Soldiers’ Organisation to visit schools, colleges, and universities to inspire students toward character building, patriotism, discipline, and a spirit of service. He also stressed that the experience of ex-servicemen should be utilized in educational institutions to promote leadership development and moral education.
Congratulating the National Soldiers’ Organisation for organizing the farsighted and nation-building event, the Governor said the organisation is making commendable contributions to promoting patriotism, discipline, service, character building, and national consciousness. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would play a significant role in spreading positive values in society and strengthening young people’s sense of national responsibility.
