Governor inaugurates 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship

Dehradun, 21 Sept: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) inaugurated the 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship at Maharana Pratap Stadium. Organized by the Wushu Association of India and the Wushu Association of Uttarakhand, this event will take place from September 21 to September 26, showcasing wushu athletes from across the country who will demonstrate their skills, discipline, and sportsmanship.

During the inauguration, the Governor stated that wushu is not only a means of physical fitness and self-defense but also promotes self-discipline, mental strength, and team spirit. He expressed pride in Uttarakhand hosting this significant championship and is confident it will unveil new talents who will represent India on international platforms.

Lt Gen Singh emphasized the importance of this event as it precedes the National Games in Uttarakhand, which will energize and instill confidence in the athletes. He congratulated the Wushu Association of India for organizing the event.

He also expressed pride in Uttarakhand being chosen to host the 38th National Games, which presents a great opportunity for the state in sports. The government is working on the necessary infrastructure for the National Games and is committed to the development of sports and athletes.

Jitendra Singh Bajwa, President of the Wushu Association of India and Wushu Association of Uttarakhand, mentioned that over 1,200 participants from more than 40 units of the Wushu Association of India, including teams from various states and paramilitary forces, will compete in this championship.

The event was attended by MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Special Secretary Sports Amit Sinha, and other dignitaries and athletes from across the country.
