Dehradun, 21 Apr: Governor Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) honoured 6 research scholars with the “Governor’s Research Award” at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday. Also, scholarships were given to 49 meritorious students studying in various institutions under the “Path Pradarshak” programme.
Apart from this, financial assistance was provided to 23 social and educational institutions across the state.
Under the Governor’s Research Award, 6 research scholars from various institutions were honoured for doing excellent research. The first prize in the field of Science and Technology was given to Dr Achlesh Devre, Assistant Professor, Doon University, the second to Dr Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor, UPES, and third to Dr Surendra Singh, Assistant Professor, Doon University. Apart from this, the first prize in Humanities and Social Sciences was awarded to Dr Shweta Suri, GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, second prize to Dr Aishwarya Pratap, Doon University, and third prize to Dr Rashi Mishra, Assistant Professor, Doon University.
Scholarships were awarded to 49 meritorious students under the “Path Pradarshak” programme initiated in 2022 by the Governor. Through this programme, scholarships were provided to 11 students studying in central government institutions, 31 students studying in professional courses in state government institutions, and 7 orphaned meritorious students studying in various institutions. In the Path Pradarshak-2023 programme, a total of 49 meritorious students were distributed scholarships worth Rs 20.25 lakh by the Governor.
Lt General Singh also provided financial assistance of Rs 16.32 lakh to 23 social organisations across the state for social work and educational upgradation. He also provided an incentive amount of Rs 50,000 to Deepika Kantura, who has done innovative work in the field of mushroom production in Uttarkashi district.
In the programme, the Governor wished all the research scholars and meritorious students for their bright future and said the coming time is of knowledge, science and research. He said that India has entered Amrit Kaal and the responsibility of taking the country forward rests on the shoulders of our youth.
He advised that the meritorious students should inculcate the spirit of leadership and contribute to the building of the nation and society through their efforts. He assured the meritorious students that, whenever they need other educational resources during their studies, efforts would be made to fulfill them.
Lt-General Singh appreciated various social and educational institutions of the state for their selfless service and efforts being made in public interest.
Ravinath Raman, Secretary to the Governor, gave detailed information about the ‘Governor’s Research Award’, ‘Path Pradarshak’ scholarship and financial assistance given to ‘social organisations’. Present on the occasion were Vice-Chancellor of GB Pant Agriculture and Technology University, Prof. Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, former Vice-Chancellor, Sridev Suman University, Prof PP Dhyani, Deputy Secretary NK Pokhriyal, Under Secretary Gajendra Nautiyal and others. The event was coordinated by Finance Controller Dr Tripti Srivastava.
