Govt committed to preserving Sanatan culture: Dhami

CM washes feet of Kanwadias in Haridwar

Haridwar, 8 Jul: Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, welcomed Shiv devotees to the state by washing their feet at Om Bridge (Om Pul) near Dam Kothi, Ganga Ghat here today. It may be recalled that the Kanwad Yatra season is on and lakhs of Shiva devotees are reaching Uttarakhand from across the country to collect Ganga water. To mark the occasion, Dhami today reached Haridwar and welcomed the Kanwadias in Haridwar by washing their feet with Ganga Jal and offering them flowers. On the occasion, he also planted saplings in Dam Kothi to send a message of environment protection and a clean Kanwad Yatra.
Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister observed that Haridwar is the centre of reverence for the whole country. This holy place has special blessings of Mother Ganga and Lord Shiva. The Kanwad Yatra has special significance in the month of Shravan (the current month as per Indian Hindu calander). He added that the state government has got the privilege of welcoming the Kanwadias. By making the Kanwad Yatra easier and safer, the government is working as an ally of the Kanwadias in their pilgrimage, adding further that serving the Kanwadias is considered to be an act of virtue.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has made adequate arrangements of health camps, toilets, parking, tin sheds, rest places at various places to facilitate a convenient Kanwad Yatra. This year the arrangements have been further improved as compared to the previous years. He reminded that last year about four crore Kanwadias had visited Uttarakhand during the Kanwad season and the Kanwad Yatra was completed successfully by the grace of Lord Shiva. Dhami stressed that this year too, a huge number of Kanwadias are expected to come to Uttarakhand and the state and the district administrations are fully prepared for this.
Dhami reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special attachment with Uttarakhand and that grand and divine Kedarnath has been rebuilt under his leadership. Work on the master plan is also going on in Badrinath. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the reconstruction work of various temples in the country including Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakaal is going on with grandeur. He said that the work done by Prime Minister Modi is now getting mentioned at the world level.
The CM said that today a network of roads is being laid across the state. The government is working to preserve the Sanatan culture through faith and development. He said that all the Kanwadias will perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva by taking Ganga water. The Chief Minister also appreciated the work of social organizations and voluntary organisations for the smooth management of the Kanwad fair.
Haridwar MP, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, local MLA Madan Kaushik, former Cabinet Minister Swami Yatishwaranand, MLA Adesh Chauhan, former MLA Sanjay Gupta and many other dignitaries and officials were among those present in the programme.
