By Arun Pratap Singh
Dehradun, 7 Sep: Following the arrest of Satish Nainwal, brother of BJP MLA from Ranikhet, Pramod Nainwal, the Congress is trying to corner the BJP government of the state on this issue. Congress state president Karan Mahara and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat have accused the government of encouraging criminal activities in the state. The Congress has asked many questions to the BJP and the Dhami government of the state. At the same time Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has declared that a party delegation will meet Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh and urge him for appropriate action in the case.
Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat today claimed that this incident is extremely worrying considering the old history of Maoism in the area. He accused the government and the Centre of trying to suppress this matter. He said that the districts bordering Nepal had earlier regularly reported some illegal activities along the border. He claimed that the evidence of this has been seen and it is now clear who is involved in what kind of activities.
Rawat stated that the Nepal government had informed the administration of the districts adjoining us that some such activities are happening on the border which is a matter of concern. Considering the sensitivity of India’s relations with Nepal and the old history of Maoism in this region, this incident should be a matter of extreme concern. This incident becomes even more worrying when the ruling party is trying to suppress this incident from Dehradun to Delhi.
Rawat says that the Congress will meet the governor in this respect and express its concern regarding the internal security. If necessary, the Congress will collect more facts and go to the Governor and meet him regarding this matter related to internal security.
Leader of the Opposition, Yashpal Arya also wondered under which law the government will proceed against Satish Nainwal and his driver Dinesh Chandra for illegally possessing 40 live cartridges. He also expressed concern over the seriousness of the issue.
Karan Mahara took a dig at the government and said that the pot of sin is now full. The younger brother of the BJP MLA has been arrested by the 57th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal with 40 illegal cartridges on the international border. Mahara alleged that after this incident, the administration and the police have started saving the brother of the MLA. Because it is being told that the administration is asking him to show the license. He raised the question that can anyone go to another country with cartridges? Can the country’s borders be crossed? But the administration is giving time to the brother to show his gun license. He said that Congress will strongly protest against such illegal activities.
