Haldwani, 23 May: The Congress candidate for the Nainital Lok Sabha seat and former Chief Minister, Harish Rawat, reached the counting centre, here, this morning. He inspected the place and, once again, claimed that the EVMs were rigged.
He claimed that the BJP had received ‘unexpected’ number of votes even from Congress dominated areas. This raised doubts about the credibility of the EVMs.
He said there were many shortcomings at the counting centre. The security for the strong room was suspect. Every voter deserved to know whether the votes had gone where they were supposed to, which was why the VVPAT comparison had been sought. Stating he was never in favour of EVMs, Rawat claimed he would have opposed them even if had won. The turnout for the Congress at the polling booths did not match today’s results.
