Health Minister Dr Rawat visits Guwahati Medical College

Guwahati/Dehradun, 2 Jan: State Medical Health and Medical Education Dr Dhan Singh Rawat visited Guwahati Medical College, today, during his two-day visit to Assam.

He had a detailed discussion with the medical college administration regarding the educational, administrative and medical arrangements there.

Earlier, Dr Rawat paid a courtesy call on Assam Health Minister Keshav Mahanta. After this, he participated in a meeting of senior departmental officials organised under the chairmanship of Health Minister Mahanta and shared information regarding the implementation of various schemes related to health services.

Health Minister Mahanta warmly welcomed Dr Rawat and both wished each other for the New Year. Departmental officers gave presentations on various health projects being run in their states.

Dr Rawat shared information related to the implementation of various health schemes run in Uttarakhand. He stated that, under the Atal Ayushman Yojana in the state, Ayushman cards have been made for more than 54 lakh people, while Digital Health ID (Abha ID) has been made for more than 65 lakh people. Apart from this, better work is being done on tuberculosis control, de-addiction campaign and blood donation campaign in the state. Besides, public awareness about health and non-communicable diseases is being regularly monitored through CHO at the Panchayat level.

He said that there has been significant improvement in institutional delivery and child mortality rates in the state. Dr Rawat said that Uttarakhand and Assam health departments will work together on some schemes.  After the meeting, Dr Rawat along with the Health Minister of Assam visited the Government Medical College, Guwahati. He took information about the educational, medical and administrative arrangements of the Medical College from the officials and also interacted with the doctors and nursing staff. Dr Rawat said that better arrangements for cleanliness have been made in Guwahati Medical College, where the cleanliness system has been completely outsourced, which will be considered for implementation in the medical colleges of Uttarakhand also.

Principal Secretary, Health, Assam, Avinash Joshi, Joint Secretary Parineeti, Indrani Laskar, Abul Chaudhary, Director, Health, Manoj Chaudhary and other officers were also present.
