Mussoorie, 8 Jul: Amidst continuous rainfall, a landslide occurred near Almas in the Lvakhal area of the Dehradun-Mussoorie National Highway, causing boulders and debris to suddenly spill on to the road. This completely blocked the route, leading to long queues of vehicles on both sides. Travellers and tourists faced inconvenience as traffic remained stalled for some time. Upon receiving the information, a National Highway (NH) department team arrived at the scene with a JCB machine. Workers swiftly began clearing the fallen boulders and debris. After some effort, the road was fully cleared, and traffic flow was restored.
There remains a persistent risk of debris falling from the hills due to the rain. Consequently, the administration and the NH department have urged drivers to exercise caution and remain alert while traveling through vulnerable areas. Motorists are specifically advised to avoid stopping unnecessarily on hill roads during rainfall. Once the road reopened, the movement of vehicles stranded on both sides normalised, bringing relief to the travelers. In view of the monsoon season, the NH department has stepped up monitoring at vulnerable locations to ensure immediate action in any emergency and prevent traffic disruptions.
