Dehradun, 11 Apr: Homage was paid to Lt Gen Vimal Shinghal (Retd) by a large number of defence personnel and others. He breathed his last at Max Hospital, here, on 10 April. He was born on 4 April, 1938, and was commissioned in Corp of Engineers, Bengal Sappers, on 8 June, 1958. He held various important portfolios during his 39 years of Army service. He topped in India even in Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) examination and did his DSSC course from Camberley, United Kingdom. He was Commandant, Bengal Engineer Group and Centre, GOC – Madras and Chennai Area, Instructor in Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command, and in College of Military Engineering. He was also Director General of the Border Road Organisation. He also remained Colonel Commandant of the Bengal Sappers. He leaves behind his wife, Manjula, and three sons, Brig Vipul Shinghal, Atul and Rahul. Among those who paid homage and attended the cremation at Lakhibagh were Brig KG Behl (Retd), Patron, Dehradun Ex-Services League (DESL), Col BM Thapa (Retd), Senior Vice President, DESL, Lt Gens MM Lakhera, DSR Sahani, Vijai Sharma, Maj Gen RS Taragi, Brigs SC Upreti, RS Rawat Col BR Dhyani, VK Malhotra, Anil Goel and many others. A prayer meeting will be held on 13 April at Atithi Community Centre, 48/ 38 Haridwar Road, opposite the Railway Workshop.
