DEHRADUN, 28 Feb: The annual Techno-Legal-Management-Design Fest ‘IGNITE 2019’, concluded successfully at UPES, here.
The 8th edition of the event on the theme of “Women Empowerment” was held simultaneously at the Kandoli & Bidholi campuses of the University. The event was inaugurated by Poonam Gupta, Sr Principal Scientist, Indian Institute of Petroleum, and Manisha Biswas, Google Women Techmakers Lead, Kolkata, as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively at the Bidholi Campus, while the Chief Guest, Shashwati Singh, Founder, NavPrerna Foundation & Inspiration Project, inaugurated the event at the Kandoli Campus.
According to Arun Dhand, Sr Director, Public Affairs, UPES, this year the event attracted 2400+ students from DIT University; Graphic Era University; Alpine Group of Institutes; Uttaranchal University; ICFAI University and UPES, participating in 99 events held over two days.
Manisha Mohan, Dean, School of Design, UPES, recalled some great women whose names were immortalised in history. In her address, the Chief Guest shared that prioritising gender equality in itself facilitated women empowerment all over the country. She shared her insight on “e-Mobility: Opportunities & Challenges”, emphasizing on Electric Vehicles as a key mitigation strategy. Delivering a talk on “I Am Remarkable”, Manisha Biswas strengthened the theme of Women Empowerment with her statistics on Women in Technology. She inspired the students by educating them on the existing diverse scholarships exclusively for Women and encouraged them to develop a Google Women Techmakers at UPES.
Of the 70 events at Bidholi campus, F1 Race, RoboWar, RoboRave, Mock CID 2.0, Operation BullsEye, Auto Part Expo, Energy Auction 2.0, Space Jam, Martian, Inverse Coding, 2 Musketeers, HoverMania, SuperWomen, RC Avio, Faulty Yantra, FIFA, CSGO, Dum Boats, etc., were among the popular events. The cultural fiesta too was a success amongst the participants. Dr Veena Dutta, Registrar, UPES, proposed the ‘Vote of Thanks’.
Eminent personalities like Guru Veena Agarwal, Kanak Kala Kendra, Dehradun; Sir Michael, Dance Director; Sameeksha Singh, Doon Superstar Winner, and Akhilesh Narayan contributed as Judges during the event.
At the Kandoli Campus, the Chief Guest, Shashwati Singh, highlighted the core problems women face in the workplace and their daily lives. Nineteen events such as She is Unstoppable; Abhivaykti 4.0; Alternate Judgement Writing; Bollywood Vagenza; Caricatoora 2.0; Case Comment 2.0; Discussion Panel on Budget; Experience Quiz 360; Google Doodle; Law Pro and many more centering their discussion around the theme of women empowerment were held at the Kandoli campus. Also present were Dr Veena Dutta and Dr Tabrez Ahmad, Dean, School of Law, UPES. The Chief Guest later felicitated the event winners with Trophies, Certificates and Cash Prizes.
Dr Priyanka S Khanduja, Faculty Convener, ‘IGNITE 19’, proposed the vote of thanks. The Faculty Conveners of ‘IGNITE-19’ were Niharika Singh, Avita Katal, Dr N C Pandey and Dr Priyanka Sharma Khanduja.
