IIM grads should work on social development: Gov

Kashipur, 28 Mar: Governor Baby Rani Maurya participated in the 7th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur, on Thursday. Congratulating the students, Governor Maurya said that education had many purposes. But only a good career or working in MNCs ought not to be the only purpose of education. Institutes like IIM also needed to promote research work for the welfare of society. The Governor presented medals and degrees to the student on the occasion.
Governor Maurya added that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is a land of opportunities. Educational institutes of international repute along with qualitative human resources were available here. The state had a good growth rate. It could achieve big targets in development with the help of expertise from institutes like IIM.
She also stressed on the collective efforts with technical expertise from Pantnagar University and management expertise from IIM Kashipur to develop new business models in the agriculture sector in the state.
Elaborating on the importance of medicinal herbs and horticulture products in the hill regions of Uttarakhand, Governor Maurya declared that scientific farming and integrated management of international quality was needed in this context.
She added that equal opportunity for women in campus placement was a first step towards gender equality. Later, companies ought to provide them opportunities to grow and equal rights in the decision making process. There ought not to be any sort of discrimination between male and female personnel.
She affirmed that a happy and prosperous India ought to be the aim of every student. The country not only needed smart and capable managers, but also leadership dedicated to the progress of the Nation.
