IISWC, Eco Task Force jointly organise tree plantation

Dehradun, 16 Jul: As part of the 75th year of Independence – Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav, ICAR Foundation Day and the conservation festival, ‘Harela’, ICAR-IISWC Dehradun and the 127 Eco Task Force jointly organised an awareness camp and plantation drive at village Saryana, Panchayat Khunna Alman, in Jaunsar region of Kalsi block, here, today. The afforestation work was jointly inaugurated by Dr M Madhu, Director, IISWC, and Rohit Srivastava, Commanding Officer, ETF, Dehradun.
On this occasion, Dr Madhu emphasised on the importance of planting trees by the local community and social fencing to make the plantation work successful. Rohit Srivastava informed the audience that they had targeted planting of about 2 lakh different species of forest plants on 67 hectares of Panchayat land of adopted villages. More than 1500 different species of forest plants like Reetha, Kachnar, Oak, Aonla, Kapoor, Guava and Arjun were planted.
Dr DV Singh, Head, Human Resource Development and Social Science Division of IISWC Dehradun and Programme Coordinator, apprised the audience about innovative ways of subsurface plantation and also gave a demonstration to 150 participations, so that maximum survival of plants could be assured.
Present were scientists of the Institute Dr NK Sharma, Dr Charan Singh and Dr J Jayprakash, who shared information about plantation techniques with the people. The programme was attended by the soldiers of ETF, officers of IISWC, and Village Pradhan Babita Chauhan along with local farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr Indu Rawat, Dr Matbar Singh, Suresh Kumar, KR Joshi and Sonu Sharma.
