CM extends greetings to people on National Farmers’ Day

Dehradun, 22 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has greeted the people of the state on the occasion of National Farmers’ Day. On this occasion, he also paid a tribute to farmer leader and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. In his message issued on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to the welfare of the farmers. There is immense potential for organic agriculture and horticulture in Uttarakhand. Apple cultivation is being particularly encouraged in the field of horticulture by the state government.
Dhami said that Mission Apple has been started in the state, by planting advanced cultivars of apple trees in the state with the help of new technology, which will lead to high quantity and quality production of apple and this can increase the apple exports from Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister said that a polyhouse scheme costing Rs 304 crore has been started for the farmers of the state. Under this, a target has been set to build about 18,000 polyhouses across the state, through which more than one lakh farmers of the state will get opportunity to augment their incomes. Farming and horticulture will provide employment opportunities to farmers in the hill districts of the state.
The CM said that State Millet Mission has been launched under agriculture in the state. Shri Anna Food Festival is being celebrated to promote the marketing of millets, in which, approximately 12,000 farmers have participated. He stated that such events will not only promote the cultivation of coarse grains, but will also provide farmers with necessary information related to coarse grains. The year 2023 is being celebrated as “Year of Millets” in the country.
Dhami claimed that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today the whole world is understanding the importance of the traditional crops of our country. On India’s proposal, the United Nations has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. He said that coarse grains like Finger Millet (Mandua), Barnyard Millet (Jhingora), Amaranth (Chulai) are being procured from the farmers of hill districts of the state at minimum support price and online payment is also being made to the farmers. This is not only increasing the income of the farmers but is also encouraging the farmers to produce millet products.
