Dehradun, 12 Jun: ‘The Pestle Weed School’ in collaboration with ‘Blind Cricket Association’ (BCA) organized Inter Zonal National Cricket Tournament for the visibly impaired persons from June 9 to 11 at the Pestle Weed school cricket ground here.
BCA is a Non-profit NGO based in Delhi, organized Inter Zonal Cricket for the visibly impaired persons. It consists of members of the blind cricket fraternity from across the country as well as spirited individuals who have passion to enhance the lives of the visually challenged young men and women.
Dr Prem Kashyap, founder of Pestle Weed School, stated that our collective aim is to celebrate our blind cricketing heroes by providing opportunities for them to play the game and to tell the world about their progress. As we believe that by doing so, more parents all over the country will encourage their specially–abled children to go to school and learn skills that will make them independent.
In order to popularize Blind Cricket and to fight against some of the prejudices regarding disability in our society, we are planning a series of national and international level tournaments over the coming years, Dr Kashyap said, adding that “Our motto is to give the best cricket to blind players so that they can capitalize on their talent and utilize their immense potential to enjoy their freedom.”
The tournament was contested among four teams: India Red, India Blue, India Yellow and India Green. From each state of India approximately four to five players were selected and divided into four teams. The participating states were Uttarakhand, Delhi, Utter Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharshtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Goa and Karnataka.
This tournament felicitated the Blind Cricket Association in selection of ASIA CUP TEAM which will be held in the month of Jan 2024.
The three days bonanza were a treat for the Cricket enthusiast as the spirit, the perseverance and the never say die attitude depicted by the visually impaired cricketers were out of this world and hugely inspirational for the beholders.
The tournament was played under league cum knock out basis between the four zonal teams. In the finals India Red team trounced India Blue team with the massive margin of 176 runs, bating first India Red team batters gave a dream start to the team as
Aniket of India Red team scored a maiden century of the tournament which helped India Red team to post a huge target of 261 runs for India Blue. The opposition team never looked to achieve the target and were all out of 85 runs. Aniket Khamankar, Prashanjeet Maiti and Aftab Patel were adjudged as a best player in the respective categories.
Several prominent personalities including Dr Prem Kashyap, Chairman The Pestle Weed School and President PPSA, Dr Arun Kumar, Kiran Kashyap, Maj Gen Shammi Sabharwal (Retd), Former GOC Sub Area, Uttarakhand, Dr Himangshu Das, Director, National Institute for The Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities, Dr SC Biala, Director Academics, The Pestle Weed School, Krishna Jung Bahadur Rana, Director Cambrian Hall, Samuel Jaideep, Principal Cambrian Hall School, Manvendra Singh Patwal, (General Secretary), Ravi Wagh (President), JP Kumar (Treasurer) and Aman Deep Arya (State Secretary Uttarakhand) were present.
