Dehradun, 12 Jun: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has upgraded Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun Airport) from Level 3 to Level 2. The Airport has been upgraded to Level 2 on the basis of increased number of air passengers during a year at Dehradun Airport. The air passenger traffic to and fro Dehradun Airport crossed the standard figure of 15 lakhs per annum during the last Financial Year that ended in March this year and therefore the upgradation of the airport was being expected from April itself. In addition, work in respect of the new terminal at the airport is also under advance stage of completion. Once the new terminal becomes operational, the capacity to handle the number of passengers at the airport will increase by ten times to over 36 lakh passengers every year. The new terminal will have a space of 42 thousand square metres.
According to the Airport Authority, more than 4,000 passengers are flying to or from Dehradun everyday now. The cities to which direct flights are available from Dehradun include, Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Jaipur, Varanasi and Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir).

Meanwhile Vistara Airlines (A Tata venture) has started its second flight between Dehradun-Mumbai from Monday. This flight will fly between Dehradun-Mumbai thrice a week at present. One flight of Vistara operates every day to Mumbai.
