Dehradun, 14 May: BJP leader Ravindra Jugran has welcomed the recent Cabinet decision to implement voluntary land consolidation in ten villages of each district in the hill regions of Uttarakhand, calling it a milestone in the development of the mountain areas.
He stated that one of the major reasons for the declining interest in horticulture, agriculture, and farming in the geographically challenging mountainous regions has been fragmented land holdings. According to him, this has also contributed significantly to rising unemployment, forcing many people to migrate from the hills.
Ravindra Jugran said that voluntary land consolidation is an effective solution to this issue; however, the government should expand the scope of the initiative so that the goal of 100 percent voluntary land consolidation can be achieved within a fixed timeframe.
He further said that, over the past several decades, horticulture, farming, and agriculture in the hilly regions have become increasingly difficult. Fragmented land holdings, changing weather patterns, threats from wild animals, and natural as well as man-made disasters have been the major contributing factors.
