DEHRADUN, 5 Mar: The Annual Athletics Meet (25 February-5 March) organised by Sardar Bhagwan Singh University, Dehradun, concluded, here, today. Col Ajay Kothiyal (Retd) was the Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony. The Meet saw fierce competition between the four Houses (Ajit, Fateh, Jujhar and Zorawar) of the University. Vice Chancellor Prof AK Sharma welcomed the gathering and encouraged the students to take part in extracurricular activities for complete mental and physical development. The competition included several field and track events. The track events included 100m, 200m and relay race in 400m for, both, boys and girls, while the 400m, 1500m and marathon were for boys. Field events such as long jump, javelin throw, shot put and discus throw were the star events. All the houses cheered their representatives creating an ambience of healthy competition.
The winners in various categories were: Mohit Bisht and Swarnima in 100m, Harsh Chaudhary and Promika in 200m, Mohd Subhi in 400m, Ramanjeet Singh in 800m, Promika, Aaditi, Himani and Mahek in 400m relay race for girls, and Mohit Bisht, Karsh Chaudhary, Mohd Ibrahim and Varnit Tyagi in 400m relay race for boys. The title of the Best Male Athlete was bagged by Harsh Chaudhary, while Swarnima was the Best Female Athlete.
Overall winner of the meet was Jujhar House.
Later, the Madras Regiment and NCC cadets of the University conducted a March Past with a display of discipline, coordination and the synchronisation. A cultural dance was the highlight of the closing ceremony, which showcased the Garhwali and Western dance forms.
The Chief Guest spoke about the importance of sports as an indispensable part of education, which helped to build self-confidence. He congratulated the winners and awarded the medals and certificates. Present on the occasion were Sardarni Harinder Pal Kaur, Chancellor SP Singh, Secretary (GBSS) Dr GD Singh, Academic Advisor Dr Luv Kush, Registrar Kishan Rawat, COE Urmi Chaurasia, Dean (Academics) Prof FC Garg, Dean (Student Welfare) Prof Manish Arora, Dean (R&D) Prof GS Randhawa, Prof Veerma Ram (Director, Pharm Science), Manager (Administration) Zorawar Singh, HODs, faculty, staff and students. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sports Convener Mohd Ajmal.
