DEHRADUN, 5 Mar: The students of Dehradun Hills Academy participated in 23rd Etlantis Chess Academy Rapid Open Chess Tournament, which saw active participation of people from all walks of life from across the country.
A total of 32 players including 21 International FIDE Rated Players participated in the event. Vinay Raj Bhatt with an ELO Rating of 1965 points was the top seed of the tournament. The event was conducted in the 8 Round Swiss system. A unique format (2 rounds of classical chess with 45 minutes plus 5 second increment per move, 3 rounds of Rapid Chess 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move and 3 rounds of blitz 5 minutes plus 5 seconds of increment per move) was used during the event.
Top Players from not only Dehradun but also from Mumbai, Delhi, Manipur, Himachal Pradesh and various other places played in the Chess Tournament, here, today. The team from Dehradun Hills Academy was among the youngest to be participating in the prestigious Rapid Open Chess Tournament.
The winner of the open category was Vinay Raj Bhatt. The Under 15 Category was won by Aayush followed closely by a Dehradun Hills Academy student, Suvansh Jain.
It was indeed a proud moment for this was the first time Suvansh was participating in a Chess tournament, which had players of national repute involved. The students of DDHA were praised by various accredited coaches for giving a stellar performance in what was arguably one of the toughest competitions that the young students had ever participated in.
