Kar Sewa Pramukh Baba Tarsem Singh shot dead in Nanakmatta; CM orders SIT inquiry

Rudrapur (Udham Singh Nagar), 28 Mar: Baba Tarsem Singh, who managed the Kar Sewa at Nanakmatta Sahib, was shot dead by unknown assailants who arrived at the Gurdwara on a motorcycle at around 6:15 a.m., today. This entire incident in public has been captured by CCTV cameras.

This murder has created a sense of panic in the entire Udham Singh Nagar district, which has a sizeable population of Sikhs. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, taking cognisance of the murder, has ordered an SIT inquiry into the murder case. At the same time, condoling the death of Tarsem Singh, Dhami prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss.

Baba Tarsem Singh was the head of Kar Sewa service at Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara. As per the information made available by the district police, Baba Tarsem Singh was sitting on a chair soon after arriving at the Gurdwara this morning, when two bike borne miscreants suddenly made an appearance at the front gate of the Gurdwara and opened fire on Baba Tarsem Singh. Singh was seriously injured by the bullets and was taken to a private hospital in Khatima. However, he was declared brought dead.

Sources claim that this murder has possible links with the upcoming elections of the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Managing Committee. A SIT has been formed to investigate the matter. It is being stated that Baba Tarsem Singh, who was seriously injured after being shot, was immediately taken to a private hospital in Khatima by the Dera Sevadars where the doctors declared him dead.

Taking immediate cognisance of this incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered DGP Abhinav Kumar to ensure arrest of the killers at the earliest and ordered an SIT investigation into the case.

The CCTV footage of the killers who escaped after killing Nanakmatta Baba has been handed over to the police administration, on the basis of which the search has been started. While sharing some relevant information with the media persons Udham Singh Nagar SSP Dr Manjunath TC said that the murder took place between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. He added that the killers are being identified on the basis of CCTV footage and statements of eyewitnesses. An appeal has been issued to the local people and the general public for help in providing useful inputs regarding the case. The SSP claimed that the killers would be brought to book as soon as possible.
