Dehradun, 12 Sep: Uttarakhand Congress President Karan Mahara has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding action on various issues related to the state. In his letter, Mahara reminded the PM that, on Independence Day, while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, he had promised to make India corruption free.  Mahara claimed in his letter that the ministers and BJP workers of BJP ruled states across the country are deeply involved in corruption.

Mahara also reminded the PM that instructions given by the court of Special Judge (Vigilance) Manish Mishra to the Council of Ministers to take a decision to grant permission to prosecute the Agriculture Minister of Uttarakhand Government Ganesh Joshi over allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to his income is a living example of this.  Mahara demanded that an immediate decision be taken at the level of the state government on this matter related to corruption by the state’s Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi.

Mahara also stated in his letter, that while Modi has asserted that there should be a fear among the rapists in the country that they would not be spared, he is forgetting that in a state like Uttarakhand, in the last three years, there has been a huge increase in the incidents of heinous crimes like murder, theft, robbery, rapes of innocents. The entire humanity has been shamed by these incidents and the identity of Devbhoomi has been hurt a lot. The involvement of the leaders of the ruling party in the Ankita Bhandari heinous murder case, the murder after gang rape of a 14-year-old minor in Bahadarabad of Haridwar district, rape of a minor in Salt of Almora district, and rape of a minor in Champawat, the assembly constituency of the Chief Minister, are a matter of even more serious concern. The PCC Chief claimed that there is an atmosphere of fear among the people of Uttarakhand and the common people, especially women, are feeling unsafe.

Mahara also mentioned in his letter that Satish Nainwal, younger brother of BJP MLA from Ranikhet, Pramod Nainwal, was caught smuggling on the Indo-Nepal International Border by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans with a huge amount of cash and live cartridges during a course of routine checking at the border and claimed that this is a very serious and  sensitive matter related to the security of the country. Mahara demanded that this case be investigated by the NIA.
