DEHRADUN, 21 Apr: The portals of the Kedarnath Shrine will open on 29 April, the designated day, at 6:10 a.m. No change in the date has been accepted due to the ongoing lockdown. It has been decided, however, to open the Badrinath Shrine on 15 May, instead of 30 April.
It had been speculated, earlier, that the Kedarnath portals would also be opened later on 14 May, but it was decided not to do so at a meeting held at the Omkareshwar Temple, the winter abode of the Deity. The meeting was attended by the Kedarnath Vedpathi, priests, and officials of the Temple Committee.
The temple Rawal was also present. He will be present at the opening ceremony. After having had his health cleared following home quarantine, he has been cleared to attend.
According to the CEO of the Devasthanam Board, BD Singh, the stakeholders, including the priests, were strictly opposed to postponement of the date. The reasons were primarily two – the rituals had already begun and the astrological determination of the date could not be overruled. The change would also impact upon the scheduled openings of the Madmaheswar Temple and Tungnath Temple, which are to open on 11 and 20 May, respectively.
