Mussoorie, 23 Jul: The historic Hawaghar, located on Camel’s Back Road, here, has come under threat after a landslide. The base of the hawaghar has collapsed after a heavy landslide due to incessant rains.
The Hawaghar was built by the British in 1834. Shiv Prasad Bharadwaj, who operates a tea shop near Hawaghar, said that the local administration and municipality have been continuously ignoring this historic structure. He said that lakhs of rupees are allocated by the municipality for its maintenance, but due to the rampant corruption maintenance work hasn’t been done as required. People from all over the country and abroad enjoy the beautiful view of the Himalaya range from the Hawaghar. Those out on evening and morning walks rest at the place. He demanded that the municipal administration take concrete action to preserve and maintain it. There is also a lot of garbage around the Hawaghar, which also needs to be cleared.
