Dehradun, 7 Mar: After launching several initiatives in the recent past to monetise and realize the true potential of its existing employees, the HR Department at UPES had launched yet another initiative called “Shakti” in the month of August, last year. This was focused on fostering and nurturing women working in UPES for leadership roles through sustained training modules spread over 7 months.
Sharing the gender demography of the organisation, Sharad Mehra, Chairman, who firmly believes that gender balance in any organisation always pays rich dividends, stated that female employees constituted a little over 25% of the total, but only 2% were in leadership roles and he was keen that an initiative be undertaken to tap into this sizeable quantity of available and talented human resource.
Sharing details of this initiative, Arun Dhand, Senior Director-Public Affairs, disclosed that this seven month long training programme constituted 4 main areas of training of the ladies by professional trainers, which included “Knowing Self”; “Leading Teams”; “Leading Organisations”; and “Building One’s Own Brand”. The female employees of UPES were shortlisted through a global best practice called ‘Hogan Assessment’. The fundamental objective was that each individual creates her own journey of self-development under the guidance of personal mentors, who were subsequently allocated to them. Some of the key areas of these training sessions included ‘Situational Leadership’, ‘Non-Violent Communication’, ‘Emotional Intelligence’, ‘Leadership Embodiment’, ‘Understanding the Big Picture’ and ‘Effective Executive Presence’.
Speaking at the Graduation ceremony, Dr Deependra Jha, Vice Chancellor of UPES, welcomed all participants on the team and encouraged each one to grow with the organisation. The entire training programme of seven months was organised and coordinated by Monika Jain, Director HR, UPES.
