Dehradun, 17 Jul: A consensus was reached today on teaching new criminal laws from this academic session at the Law College Dehradun of Uttaranchal University. A 16-member Board of Studies was constituted under the Chairmanship of the Dean and Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Rajesh Bahuguna, to prepare a curriculum based on the new laws. Along with internal, external and industry experts, law students were also included in the board. Prof SD Sharma of Kumaon University and advocate Dr Aman Rab joined as external experts.

Prof Bahuguna said that a thorough brainstorming was done to prepare the state-of-the-art curriculum of the university, in which the opinions of senior advocates and alumni including law experts and educationists from all over the country were given priority. He said that, while on the one hand, new criminal laws were included in the curriculum, on the other, courses based on AI and Forensic Science were also approved. He said that new criminal laws, artificial intelligence and forensic science will be the challenges of law for the Academic Session 2024-25.

As an industry expert, Dr Aman Rab said that with the implementation of new laws, many interpretations will emerge and, in such a situation, the judiciary will have the most important role.

Subject expert Prof Sharma said that although legal education has been kept out of the new education policy, however, its basic principles have been accepted by the Bar Council of India.

Those present on the occasion were Principal Prof Poonam Rawat, Head Dr Radhey Shyam Jha, Kumar Ashutosh, Dr Jitendra Singh, Dr Vaibhav Uniyal and student member Aswathi.
