Raiwala, 20 Apr: The Corona heroes such as the police personnel, doctors, nurses, sanitation workers, shopkeepers for daily needs, pharmacists, scientists, and social workers are in the frontline of the fight against COVID-19. It is the duty of every single person to do their part for the protection of these people. Maa Anadmayee Memorial School (MAMS) is using its critical thinking skills to address this challenge with an innovative approach.
The Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) is a programme run by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) under the NITI Aayog to foster curiosity and an innovative mindset in young students to promote 21st Century Skills. Today, the Atal Tinkering Lab cum STEAM Makerspace at MAMS created face shields using 3D printing technology and shared the prototypes with the police personnel who guard the area. This was done in the presence of Gram Pradhan Rohit Nautiyal who has also shown remarkable leadership in the fight against COVID.
The 3D printed face shield has three parts: Head frame, the shield and bottom frame. The head frame and bottom frame are made using a 3D printer. The face shield is made of transparent light material.
For 3D printing, computer-aided design (CAD) is used to make the models on a computer. Then it is transferred and printed by a 3D printer. Transparent sheets (OHP sheets/cover of transparent files) have been used as shields.
Finally, the end product was distributed to the police personnel who are ensuring compliance of the lockdown. This is a prototype design made for the very first time. Feedback and suggestions from the community have been invited so that these ideas can be used for improvement of the design.
