DEHRADUN, 5 Apr: A massive fire broke out in the forest near Maggi Point on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road. The fire caused panic in the area as it started spreading quickly. The flames reached close to roadside shops, creating a dangerous situation. After nearly two hours of intensive effort, the blaze was finally brought under control.
According to the information the local people informed the Forest Department, Fire Service, and Police. All teams reached the spot quickly. With the help of local people, the fire was brought under control after about two hours of hard work. The forest fire caused heavy damage to forest resources. There was no loss of life or property in the incident.
One local shopkeeper shared that he saw thick smoke rising from the nearby forest. Within minutes, the fire moved closer to his shop, leaving him frightened. He immediately contacted the authorities. DFO Mussoorie Amit Kanwar said that keeping the forest fire season in mind, 43 fire stations and 198 fire watchers have been deployed in the Mussoorie Forest Division. He also said that villagers are being made aware of forest fire safety. He appealed to the public not to light fires in or near forest areas.
