Dehradun, 22 Aug: In the light of the growing elderly population and their high medical dependence, Max Hospital, Dehradun, celebrated World Senior Citizens’ Day on Wednesday to honour their ‘golden years’.
Max conducted this event for the fifth consecutive year and witnessed participation from more than 500 senior citizens of the city and regions around.
The event started with the lamp lighting ceremony by the Guest of Honour, Dr Lt Col Hem Chandra Pandey (Retd), Vice Chancellor, Uttarkhand Medical University, and Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar, Vice President, Operations & Unit Head- Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun.
An open session in which the hospital’s experts from the fields of gastroenterology, pulmonology, orthopedics, cardiology and neurosurgery took part was held during which discussions were held on general problems in this age.
Dr Preeti Sharma, Dr Ravikant Gupta, Dr Hemanshu Kochhar, Dr Vaibhav Chachra and Dr AM Thakur interacted with the audience and shared tips about managing old age and how to take care of your health post the age of 60.
A spiritual talk by Swami Shantananda from Haridwar was also one of the highlights of the event. Along with that, some games and dance performance for their entertainment was also presented.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar asserted, “It is a great pleasure for us to host this event for the 5th year consecutively. An initiative aimed at encouraging Senior Citizens to celebrate good health and participate in relevant discussions with reference to their health needs with leading consultants of Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, to prevent diseases in old age and bring about a positive, long term and sustainable behavioural change in their lifestyle. We believe ‘Prevention is better than cure’, which leads to a healthy lifestyle, especially for senior citizens.”
