Dehradun, 23 July: Cooperatives Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, at a review meeting of all the top cooperative institutions, in the presence of Dilip Jawalkar, the new Secretary of the Cooperatives Department, directed that the village level work of cooperative societies should be expedited and the ongoing schemes inspected and promoted effectively.
During the review meeting held at the State Integrated Cooperatives Development Project Directorate on Tuesday, Dr Rawat emphasised the importance of strengthening the village level cooperative institutions and ensuring that they are able to effectively meet the needs of the local farmers. He directed all the top institutions to expedite their village level work and take necessary steps to ensure timely and efficient implementation of the ongoing schemes.
The Cooperatives Minister also stated that the state government will make provisions for shares in cooperative banks. The Managing Director of the State Cooperative Bank will be a professional.
A review was also done on making a transfer policy in cooperative banks. The minister also enquired about the progress of net banking. The MD of the State Cooperative Bank informed the meeting that, last year, the cooperative banks made a profit of Rs 66 crore, whereas this year the profit has reached Rs 115 crore.
It was stated that 52 progressive farmers of the state were taken on a tour of Gujarat and Himachal last year. Minister Rawat directed the MD of PCU to ensure the outline of a study tour of five states and union territories – Jammu & Kashmir, Sikkim, Andaman Nicobar Islands, Maharashtra and Kerala this year. Top officials along with farmers will be involved in this tour.
The MD of Silk Cooperative Federation, Anand Shukla said that 6500 women of the state are directly and indirectly associated with it. The demand for silk clothes manufactured by the Federation is increasing. He said that poultry farming is also a beneficial scheme of the State Integrated Cooperative Development Project. A large number of farmers are joining.
Secretary Dilip Jawalkar said that the points discussed in the review meeting and the cooperative schemes should be worked upon with a target.
The Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank Limited, Uttarakhand State Cooperative Federation (UCF), Uttarakhand Housing and Construction Cooperative Federation, Regional Cooperative Union (PCU), Consumer Cooperative Federation, Uttarakhand Silk Federation, Uttarakhand Co-operative Dairy Federation, Uttarakhand Sheep-Goat and Rabbit Federation, Uttarakhand Fisheries Cooperative Federation, Labour Construction Contract Cooperative Federation, Uttarakhand Apple Producer and Marketing Cooperative Federation, Uttarakhand Silage Production and Marketing Cooperative Federation, Uttarakhand Fisheries Cooperative Federation were reviewed on the occasion.
Secretary Jawalkar, Registrar, Cooperatives, Alok Kumar Pandey, Additional Registrar Ira Upreti, Anand Shukla, Neeraj Belwal, MP Tripathi, Ramindri Mandrawal, Pan Singh Rana, Bharat Singh Rawat, Dr Manoj Sharma and other officials were present at the meeting.
