Congress celebrates Labour Day

By Our Staff Reporter

Dehradun, 1 May: On the occasion of Labour Day, State Congress Committee President Karan Mahara congratulated all the organised and unorganised sector workers of the state. He noted that the basic objective behind Labour Day is to protect the rights of every worker, because they make an important contribution to building society, institutions and the nation. Without workers, the development of the country cannot be thought of.

Mahra claimed that a perusal at the post independent history of India would make it evident that Congress party governments have done maximum work on making policies in the interest of the labourers and the poor. By starting a multipurpose employment-oriented scheme like MNREGA, work on providing employment to lakhs of poor labourers of India has been achieved. In the Congress rule, through Indira Awaas, important work was done in the direction of providing housing to the poor homeless people in the rural areas and under the Rajiv Gandhi Awaas, the poor of the urban areas were provided houses in the cities. The poor working class has always been at the centre of focus for Congress party. The Congress party has always been eager and committed for the progress of this class. Many welfare schemes were launched for the poor and working class during the Congress rule. The last Congress government of the state had also made many welfare schemes for the working class during its tenure, including free kit distribution scheme to workers, labour protection scheme, labour welfare scheme, craftsman pension scheme, crafts industry revival and development scheme, Indira Priyadarshini working women’s hostel scheme. He accused the Modi Government of continuously giving step-motherly treatment to Uttarakhand, by cutting funds in many schemes. Mahra claimed that the anti-state policies of the Modi Government have harmed the interests of the people of the state.

He added that, at present, the labourers are not getting their wages and the queues of the unemployed are getting longer. The working class has an important role in the development of India and the Congress party has always stood by the working class and has been fighting for its interests.
