A three-day state mourning has been declared in the state on the death of Chandan Ram Dass. It may be recalled that due to his very affectionate and sweet temperament, Chandan Ram Dass was very well liked among this cabinet colleagues. Though a fourth time MLA, he had become a minister only for the first time last year after the assembly elections, but the destiny did not allow him to complete his term as a minister. Chief Minister Dhami is known to have a special liking for Ramdas due to his nature and helping attitude who never hesitated to offer guidance to younger politicians.
With his demise, Dhami cabinet has now four vacancies and it remains to be seen if all of them or just one or two cabinet berths are filled up and when. Also it will also be interesting to see who will be fielded by the BJP from Bageshwar assembly constituency which has fallen vacant due to Ram Dass’s demise. Of course, the seat should be filled up through a bypoll within six months of falling vacant. Speculation is rife that Chandan Ram Dass’s wife Parvati Das may be fielded from Bageshwar.
