Dehradun, 24 Oct: Senior BJP leader and Vikasnagar MLA, Munna Singh Chauhan today strongly countered the statements made by Leader of the Opposition, Yashpal Arya and other Congress leaders regarding the proposed Assembly session at Gairsain (Bhararisain) and the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). In a statement issued today, Chauhan asserted that the BJP government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, remains fully committed to the dignity of Gairsain, public aspirations and the development of the hill regions. He said that instead of displaying what he described as sudden and ‘crocodile tears’ for Gairsain, the Congress should be more concerned about its declining political relevance.
Chauhan claimed that the Dhami government has gone beyond mere rhetoric and undertaken concrete work for Gairsain. He reminded that the BJP government had accorded Gairsain the status of the summer capital, has made budgetary provisions for its development and has initiated measures to strengthen road connectivity, drinking water facilities and administrative infrastructure. He added that efforts have also been made to bring wider recognition to Gairsain through events such as the International Day of Yoga.
The BJP MLA claimed that whenever the state government organises an Assembly session in Gairsain, Congress leaders prefer walkouts, disruptions and baseless allegations instead of participating constructively in legislative discussions. Referring to the Budget Session held in March earlier this year, he alleged that the Congress had created disturbances both inside and outside the House. He further claimed that ahead of the Assembly Session scheduled for 27 and 28 October, the Congress party is once again inventing excuses to avoid debating issues of public importance.
He said that rather than unnecessarily opposing the duration of the session, the Congress should place concrete and constructive suggestions in the House on Gairsain’s development, local concerns and broader public welfare issues.
Chauhan also questioned the stand of Congress leaders Yashpal Arya and Pritam Singh on the issue. He reminded that both these leaders had resigned from the Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee in August 2025, but are now raising objections over the duration of the session and the decision to hold the committee meeting in Dehradun. He maintained that such decisions are taken keeping in view legislative and administrative convenience, as well as the timely participation of leaders from all the political parties. Instead of indulging in politics over procedural matters, he said, the Congress should explain what concrete initiatives it had undertaken for the development of Gairsain during its rule. The public, he added, expects accountability and tangible results rather than constant opposition.
The BJP MLA further claimed that the Congress’ so-called Parivartan rallies have proved to be a complete failure. He alleged that after failing to attract public support, Congress leaders are now unsuccessfully attempting to shift the blame for their shortcomings onto the government and the Assembly Secretariat.
Chauhan said the development schemes and programmes announced by the BJP government should be assessed on the basis of their actual implementation on the ground. He questioned the Congress’ record during its own tenure in power and asked what justice it had done to Gairsain at that time. He alleged that while the Congress could only indulge in political drama from the streets to the Assembly, the BJP government is working on the ground for the comprehensive development of Gairsain. He added that the people of Uttarakhand were fully aware of what he termed the Congress’ double standards and politics of evasion.
