Nagaland Statehood Day celebrated at Raj Bhavan

Dehradun, 1 Dec: A program was organised on the occasion of Nagaland Statehood Day at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday.

People of Nagaland state living in Uttarakhand gave fascinating presentations of various cultural programmes at the event.

Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated in the programme and congratulated the people present.

In his address, he said that celebrating the foundation days of other states is promoting social integration and cultural exchange.

He recalled that he had a long association with Nagaland and served there as an army officer. He expressed fondness for the environment there and the closeness of the people of Nagaland.

The Governor pointed out that the ‘Seven Sisters’ are among the biggest tourism attractions in India, and Nagaland is a major part of it. The state is home to some endangered species of birds and animals. It is known as the ‘Falcon Capital of the World’.

He pointed out that Nagaland Day would be incomplete without the Hornbill Festival, which is known as the Festival of Festivals and is named after the Hornbill bird. This bird is considered sacred among the Naga tribes and is also mentioned in their mythology.

The Governor said it was his good fortune to celebrate the Nagaland Statehood Day organised under the ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ programme with the people of Nagaland at the Raj Bhavan.

On this occasion, the Governor also paid tribute to freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu, popularly known as Rani Laxmibai of Nagaland.

First Lady Gurmeet Kaur, Secretary to the Governor, Ravinath Raman, Finance Controller Dr Trupti Srivastava, officers and employees of Raj Bhavan were also present.
