DEHRADUN, 9 Apr: Leading Folk singer from Uttarakhand, Narendra Singh Negi, was today conferred with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award along with 44 celebrities from across the country in Delhi. Negi was awarded by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu along with 44 other achievers from across the country. Narendra Singh Negi was selected for the award of the year 2018 for his special contribution in the field of folk music in Uttarakhand. Speaking to the media before leaving for Delhi to receive the award, Narendra Singh Negi thanked the people of Uttarakhand for their love and blessings. He also had a message for the younger generation and said that whatever work the younger generation want to do must be done diligently. It is only through hard work and dedication that one can reach one’s desired destination. He also informed that on 12 April, he would be performing at Mandi House in Delhi. It may be recalled that Narendra Singh Negi is known as a folk singer whose lyrics project the concerns of the women of the mountain, the pain of the elderly, migration and all the untouched aspects of folk life of the hills of Uttarakhand. He has chiefly penned his lyrics in Garhwali language. Born in August 1949 in Pauri, Narendra Singh Negi has penned and sung many songs about lifestyle, culture, politics of Uttarakhand. In 1974, he first gained popularity with his first Garhwali composition Mera Sadani Ini Din Raina. In 197788, his musical journey continued on the radio. Despite the arrival of new singers, the people of Uttarakhand still listen to the songs of Narendra Singh Negi with the same love and respect as they did years ago. Narendra Singh Negi has sung more than 300 songs till now He continues to be at the top in popularity despite arrival of a large number of new singers and lyricists. He started in the field of music with Garhwali Geetmala. He has also lent his voice to films like Garhwali film Chakrachal, Gharjawain, Meri Ganga Holi and Mainma Aali, etc. He has worked in many albums including Chhunyal, Dagdya, Ghasiyari, Haldi Haath.
CM congratulates Negi, Bajeli for receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award

DEHRADUN, 9 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was among those who today congratulated Negi as well as Diwan Singh Bajeli for being honoured with the prestigious Sangeet Natya Akademi Award at the national level for their contribution to the field of music and acting respectively. Dhami said that the honour given to Narendra Singh Negi in the field of traditional folk songs and Diwan Singh Bajeli in the field of performance was also the honour for the state. The Chief Minister said that this honour has also given recognition to the folk songs, music and performing arts of the state at the national level. It is to be noted that folk singer Narendra Singh Negi has been given this award in the field of traditional folk songs and music and Shri Dewan Singh Bajeli has been given this award in the field of acting. Narendra Singh Negi is a native of Pauri Garhwal and Diwan Singh Bajeli Someshwar is a native of Almora.
