DEHRADUN, 9 Apr: Strong tremors were felt today evening in Yamunotri valley and Purola. The tremors forced people out of their houses and shops. Panic was noticed in the area though no reports have been received of any casualty or damages so far. Tremors were felt in Barkot in Yamunotri valley of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand at around 4.52 pm this evening. As soon as the tremors were felt, people came out of their houses in panic. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far. Apart from Barkot in Yamunotri valley, tremors were also felt in Purola and Mori tehsils. The centre of the seismic activity was reported to be in Himachal Pradesh. The magnitude of the earthquake was reported to be 4.1 on the Richter scale. The District Disaster Management Officer said that there was no report of any untoward incident in the district, but he added that the administration was keeping a close watch on the situation. Tremors of the earthquake were felt till Yamunotridham and Kharshali. In panic, people ran out of the houses towards the open ground. In Uttarkashi, there have been damages due to earthquakes several times in the past. In such a situation, people here are scared if they feel tremors.
