Dehradun, 16 Oct: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Akhil Bhartiya Nepali Bhasha Samiti, organised a Nepali Poets’ Meet here on Wednesday under its programme, ‘Gramalok’. The programme, held at the Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Auditorium of Gorkha Military Inter College, Garhi Cantt, was chaired by Dr Bhupendra Adhikari, President of the Samiti.
After welcoming the guests and lighting of the ceremonial lamp to the chanting of Richas, General Secretary Acharya Krishna Prasad Panthi enlightened the gathering about the objectives of Gramlok. He said that the Sahitya Akademi provides a national stage for local authors and poets of non-urban areas through the Gramalok Programme organised in 24 languages across the country. In his key-note speech he also emphasised on the rich heritage shared by Sanskrit and Nepali in the field of poetry.
Another poet and alumnus of the school, Uday Thakur recited a poem based on his experiences of school days and a poem on the legacy of Gorkha Community in Dehradun. Meanwhile, poet BB Rana ‘Kshitij’ recited thoughtful poetry on the importance of Nature. Another poet, Sushil Deoli delivered his message to students through his poem on the Sparrow. The programme was coordinated and anchored by Dr Dinesh Sharma. He emphasised the importance of joint family values in his poem.
At the end, Principal Deepali Jugran proposed the vote of thanks. President of Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, Padam Singh Thapa, Author PN Rai, CK Rai, Gopal Singh Chhetri, Poonam Sharma, Jyoti Rani, Shanta Panthi, Shanti Prasad and around sixty students were amongst the audience.
