Dehradun, 20 Jun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken serious cognisance of the concern over planned tree felling on New Cantt Road for widening of this VVIP Road and has directed that no tree will be cut there.
It may be recalled that, over the past several days on social media, various environmental activists and organisations have been running a campaign against the proposed widening of New Cantt Road which runs by the CM’s Residence as well as the Raj Bhavan. It was alleged that 142 well grown healthy trees will be cut on this road for widening purpose. Even the main Opposition party, the Congress had been opposing this move.
These 142 trees are planted between Vijay Colony and CM’s Residence and are green and healthy trees. The issue was recently picked up by the media, too, and was highlighted also on social media.
Taking cognisance of the issue raised by the activists and organisations, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the officials concerned to look for ways to widen the road without cutting or uprooting the trees.
