DEHRADUN, 23 Aug: To understand the ideal models and best practices of decentralisation and local self-governance, a delegation of 38 senior officials from local bodies in the Maldives visited the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) on Saturday.
The delegation observed various departments and desks of the Municipal Corporation and closely studied the innovations and positive work being carried out by the corporation. The officials observed that the initiatives being undertaken at the local level by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation are exemplary for other bodies.
On this occasion, the delegation was given a detailed presentation on the functioning of local bodies, the corporation’s achievements, public participation-based programmes, and efforts towards smart governance.
Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal welcomed the delegation and noted that it is a matter of pride for the administration of Doon Nagar Nigam that senior officials from a country like the Maldives choose the Dehradun Municipal Corporation for their study. The Nagar Nigam’s endeavour is that the positive initiatives here not only bring about a change in the lives of the city residents but also serve as a model for other states and countries.
The Maldivian delegation praised the corporation’s efforts, especially commending the waste management, green initiatives, and public awareness campaigns. They said that Dehradun presents a strong example of local self-governance.
The Dehradun Municipal Corporation is continuously experimenting with new ways to make the city clean, beautiful, and smart. This international visit proves that the corporation’s working methods are gaining recognition and appreciation at a global level.
