DEHRADUN, 23 Aug: Following instructions from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, disaster relief work is progressing at a fast pace in the Tharali area. A joint rescue operation is being conducted by the district administration along with NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and SSB.
Late Friday night, due to a rise in the water level in the Toonri stream in Tharali tehsil, one to two feet of debris had entered the tehsil complex, Chepdo market, Kotdeep market, and some houses, while some vehicles were also buried under the debris. Additionally, one person is missing in Chepdo village due to the excessive rainfall, and the administration is searching for him.
The district administration is engaged in relief and rescue work.  On Saturday, 7 DDRF personnel, 27 NDRF personnel, 12 SDRF personnel, 12 SSB Gwaldam personnel, and officials from the district administration, tehsil administration, police department, BRO, health department, and other departments were deployed at the site.
District Magistrate Tiwari informed that a health department team, comprising four medical officers, six staff nurses, one pharmacist, one driver with an ambulance, and life-saving medicines, is on high alert. In addition, a team of two 108 ambulances and two specialist medical officers has been deployed at SDH Karnaprayag, and two additional medical officers have been deployed from PHC Dewal.
He also informed that relief camps have been set up at the Government Polytechnic College and Shaheed Bhawanidutt Inter College in Chepdo, and vehicles have been arranged to transport people to these centres.
The DM also stated that JCB machines, ropes, wood cutters, stretchers, and other necessary items have been sent to the disaster site. In view of the heavy rains, a holiday has been declared in all schools in Tharali, Dewal, and Narayanbagar blocks today. The administration has appealed to the public to stay in safe places and contact the local administration in case of any emergency.
