One dead, 8 injured as car falls into gorge in Pauri, one dead in another accident

Srinagar, 25 Apr: Road accidents in Uttarakhand continue unabated, claiming lives daily. Two tragic accidents occurred in Pauri district today. In the first case, on the Paithani-Chaurikhal motor road in Pauri district, today, a car lost control and plunged into a 50-metre-deep gorge claiming one life and leaving several seriously injured. The one who died was driving the car, while eight others sustained serious injuries. At the same time, one life was lost in the second accident and 7 injured in Pauri district, itself.

In the first case, the deceased has been identified as Dharmendra Chaudhary, aged 45 years, a resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, who was a professional driver. Following the accident, local villagers and passersby immediately commenced relief and rescue operations. The police and administrative teams arrived promptly and retrieved the injured from the ditch, rushing them to the nearest hospital. Some of the injured were reported to be in critical condition and have been referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment.

The police have taken the body of the deceased into custody, sent it for postmortem, and informed his family of the incident. There is deep mourning in the family following the tragedy. The accident, which occurred around 11:40 a.m. today, resulted in total destruction of the vehicle. The ill-fated car was carrying nine passengers, including children.

Those injured in the accident have been identified as Sarita Devi, aged about 40 years; Sonakshi, aged about 16 years; Somiya, aged about 9 years; Aarti Devi; Aarushi; Pahu Devi; Sunanda and Aniket.

A second road accident occurred on the Satyakhal to Bhitai route, with a van reportedly crashing on the Bhitai motor road. The vehicle was carrying nine individuals, including seven children. All injured were admitted to the District Hospital Pauri. Due to the severity of their injuries, doctors referred four individuals to AIIMS Rishikesh via air ambulance. Additionally, a girl and another seriously injured person were referred to Srinagar Base Hospital.

The injured have been identified as Vijay Singh alias Vijendra Singh; Anil Kumar (driver); Anmol; Divyanshi; Akhil Negi; Aditi; Vanshika; Anuj; and Akshat Negi.

Chief Development Officer, Pauri, Girish Gunwant stated that immediate relief and rescue operations were initiated upon receiving news of the accident. He confirmed that all those injured in both the Bhitai and Paithani area incidents received timely treatment at the District Hospital Pauri, with critically injured individuals being referred to higher medical centres via air ambulance after initial aid.
