DEHRADUN, 7 Mar: 39th PSPB Inter Unit Volleyball Tournament scheduled to be held from 7th – 10th March, 2019, commenced on 7th March 2019 at ONGC Volleyball complex. ONGC, BPCL, OIL India, MRPL, NRL HPCL with National and International players are participating in the four day event.
Director Naveen Chandra Pandey Chief Guest on the occasion declared the tournament open by release of balloons and cutting of ribbon.
Addressing the gathering Pandey said that he is opening a tournament that is really close to his heart, and it’s no other than volleyball. Activities like this help in building confidence, promoting camaraderie and developing teamwork. It also plays a vital role in maintaining one’s wellbeing and physical fitness apart from inculcating team spirit and patience he said.
Director (T&FS) sharing information said that Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) was established in June 1979 and the objective of PSPB is to encourage, develop, co-ordinate and organize various sports.
Further, speaking he said that ONGC is committed towards promoting sports, and sponsors International and National events while supporting financially weak sportspersons. Building of infrastructure, training in the country and abroad, providing necessary kits and instruments and endowing scholarship support and sponsorship to the young and upcoming talented sportspersons are an integral part of ONGC’s credo. ONGC presently has 179 active sportspersons and 159 players on scholarships, spread over 23 game disciplines. Out of which, 93 sportspersons are international players who have been regularly representing the country in Cricket, Chess, Table Tennis, Athletics, Badminton, Volleyball, Hockey, Lawn Tennis, Football and Shooting amongst other sports. ONGC has over 40 national awardees in the organization ( Padma Bhushan-1, Khel Ratna-1, Padma Shri-3, Arjuna-34 and Dhyanchand-1).
Director (T&FS) further exhorting said that this is the reason why ONGC accepts the challenge of developing players into great athletes and role models which begins as we open the volleyball tournament.
Director (T&FS) urged everyone to give their game their best shot. Also, he said do not forget to have fun because with the healthy competition and inspiriting moment, is a lot more memorable learning experience. Win or lose, we learn in the most enjoyable way so we never lose at all.
Earlier, ED- Head Corporate Administration, Preeta Pant Vyas warmly welcomed Director Pandey.
