“Orchid Farming has potential to empower women”

Dehradun, 17 Dec: On the last day of the Orchid Farming training held at Graphic Era Deemed University here, today, farmers were educated about the propagation and maintenance of orchids. This training was organised in the Orchid polyhouse of the University.

During the training, experts trained female farmers on propagating Cattleya species of orchids using rhizome propagation method.

In the valedictory session of this two-day training programme, Dean (Projects) Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma addressed the participants. He said that orchid farming has the potential to empower women by making them self-reliant. Prof VP Uniyal from Biotechnology Department urged the farmers to spread awareness about orchid farming among the community. On this occasion, Principal Investigator and HOD of Department of Biotechnology Dr Manu Pant’s book, Exploring Medicinal Orchids, was also launched.

The training on Orchid Cultivation in Uttarakhand (Phase-2) was organised by Department of Biotechnology and Department of Management Studies in collaboration with State Government’s Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology.
