Our Alumni, our Heritage: Professor Surekha Dangwal

DEHRADUN, 25 Sep: Doon University organised its first Alumni Meet, on a virtual platform, wherein alumni from across the country as well as from abroad participated in the event. Professor Dangwal inaugurated the programme and said that the alumni are the heritage of the University who take the legacy of the University forward. She further added that our current students are going to benefit greatly from the success that our alumni have achieved in a very short span. The feedback from alumni will prove to be extremely beneficial for the University. The Vice Chancellor of Doon University Professor Surekha Dangwal asserted that an institution evolves with the growth of its students; it is the students who contribute to the formation of an institution. Therefore, it is imperative for the students to be connected to their past and roots for their personal as well as society’s holistic growth. Doon University, in its short period of existence, has grown manifold and achieved greatly. The University owes it to its alumni and its former administrative officials for these achievements. Professor HC Purohit Chairperson of DUAA emphasized that the objectives of education can be met only when it can bring about qualitative changes to Mala Shikha. She informed that the Alumni Cell at Doon University was formed in 2012 and it was reconstituted in 2016. Subsequently, it was registered in 2017 under the Society Registration Act where it was named as Doon University Alumni association (DUAA). the life of the most maginalized one in the society and in this manner, the needy ones can benefit from the traditional as well as advanced form of education. When a scholar moves beyond the personal goals then s/he can contribute significantly to the process of nation-building. A constant dialogue with our alumni is extremely relevant today as the University can take their inputs from time to time for the students to benefit from this interaction so that they may look upto the alumni as their role-models.

The Registrar of Doon University, Dr. M. S. Mandrawal in his address appreciated that the alumni have made a name for themselves as well as for Doon University in India and abroad. He mentioned that due to the pandemic the first Alumni Meet has been organised virtually, however, the University plans to organise an Alumni Meet in physical mode soon so that a large number of alumni participate and share their experience on campus and reconnect with their Alma Mater.

The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr.Mala Shikha. She informed that the Alumni Cell at Doon University was formed in 2012 and it was reconstituted in 2016. Subsequently, it was registered in 2017 under the Society Registration Act where it was named as Doon University Alumni association (DUAA). The former students of Doon University also shared their experience and thoughts during the Alumni Meet. Ravi Kala, an alumnus from School of Environment and Natural Resource proposed that the Alumni Association can identify small goals and can work towards them collectively. Webinars, workshops, and placement drives can be organised with support from the alumni. Ayush, Suchandan Natua, Ayushi, Satyam Negi, Kuldeep, Somya Sundriyal and Bhumika Chandola and many other distinguished alumni from Doon University participated in the programme. Faculty of Doon University Professor Harsh Dobhal, Dr. Archana Sharma, Dr. Rashi Mishra, Dr. Sudhanshu Joshi and Dr. Rajesh Bhatt attended the event.
